One thing about work friends is that you sometimes have situations arise that are difficult to effectively manage. One of those is when your best work friend becomes your boss. Itâs apt to happen to you sooner or later. I know some people make jokes that youâve got it made, but you donât really have anything made. In fact, without some mature thought, you could lose a friend permanently or even put your job at risk. Here are some things for you to consider: Your relationship will change. Your friend canât be seen as playing favorites with you. Everyone has to feel like they all get an equal chance at assignments and opportunities. If your friend is at all mature, they will probably distance themselves; and you need to support that shift. You want to stay friendly, but a certain level of professional detachment is in order for you both. Donât ask them for favors. Go out of your way to not compromise your friendâs position. Granted, all people ask favors of the boss at some point, but make sure you wait a long time before making your requests. Just because you are friends, doesnât mean they think you do a great job. Understand one role that your friend, now manager, plays is to assess your performance. Iâve worked with a number of work friends over the years whose performance I thought was marginal. I would have hated to have those people work for me, because I would have had to take action to spiff them upâ¦and that isnât a fun process. It can damage a friendship. Sit down and talk about this change. Rather than just make assumptions about each other, do both of you a favor and have a chat. It would be great for you to acknowledge that they are the boss and you can separate a personal and a professional relationship. Open the door to have future conversations so you can both check in to see if you have each adjusted to your new roles and tweak anything that might not be working well. Donât share details with the group. You might have personal and private knowledge of your friend that should never be shared. Sharing their information might make you feel momentarily like you have an inside track, but it wonât be worth it in the long run. The deal is almost everything gets back to the boss and this isnât something you want to be tagged with. You will do irreparable damage to the entire relationship if you have loose lips. Trust is an important value to both friendship and work relationships. It only takes one stupid act to blow it. Donât take things personally. The boss (your friend) has new responsibilities and that will mean that there could be decisions they have to make that you might not like. More than likely, the decision is driven by a business reason, so donât make your first assumption that itâs about you. If you have an issue, take it up with them privately so you can problem solve just like you would with your previous boss. Itâs ok to act as counsel. Because of your trusted relationship, your friend may seek you out for insight or to bounce ideas. As mentioned previously, donât share these conversations with others. You may need to also ensure that you donât share too much information about your peers to your boss/friend, unless you know that they can handle the information appropriately. Act professionally. The best advice for how you want to proceed is to act professionally. Keep business just that way and make sure you can keep business and personal separate. Who knows It could be you who becomes the boss of your best friend. The dairy products include butter, yoghurt, cream and cheese. These products and their variations go through many processes including pasteurization, fermentation and churning to create the different consistencies of dairy and remove bacteria.The consumption of milk, in all forms: whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed, according to one report in 2016, is declining but, due to the belief that dairy products are the best source of calcium, the United Kingdom still remains one of the highest consumers of milk in the world.We rarely question our consumption of milk and dairy despite not being a necessary source of calcium. This lack of lactase causes digestive problems such as bloating, stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhoea. Not a nice experience for anyone and perhaps one indicator of why we should not consume cowâs milk as regularly as we do.However, despite lactose intolerance becoming a common and prevalent illness that could help us in the decision to ditch dairy altogether, there is instead a full range of lactose-free dairy products on our supermarket shelves. These products are not only more expensive to buy than average dairy products but they are also unnecessary for our health.Less well known is the fact that many people are allergic to dairy, suffering from mild symptoms such as hives, vomiting and diarrhoea and, in extreme cases, anaphylactic sh ock. And, if we are lucky, old un-serving traditions could transcend into new, healthier ones. Although replacements cannot yet be found in many convenience or local stores, larger supermarkets are starting stock more dairy-free options and of course, there are more specialised shops if you are lucky enough to live close to one.Most dark chocolate contains soya derivatives instead of dairy, it is just a matter of checking the ingredients. Cheese is most the common complaint when it comes to avoiding dairy. Many people believe that they cannot live without cheese. This belief is mainly because it contains a high concentration of casein created through the cheese making process. Casein contains has fragments of what is called casomorphins (morphine compounds). This can make cheese very addictive, making it very hard to give up.However, the taste of cheese is hard to replace and although there are many alternatives out there, it is hard to convince cheese lovers to ditch it altogether. If this is the case and cheese is the last thing to go, it is a good idea to just to limit cheese where possible. Many people find that once they have transitioned to milk alternatives, after time, cheese starts to taste unnatural and strange. It is worth taking time to break habits to become healthier in the long run.Ca lcium is a nutrient our body needs and with more and more research becoming available, people are opting to avoid dairy as it no longer known to be the best source. It is not only a factor relating to our health but also a factor for dairy cows and the planet. If we can avoid suffering and become healthier by doing so, there are no strong reasons why we canât consider alternatives.It is a personal choice but it is important to know that despite dairy being on the government's Eatwell Guide as a food group, it is not necessary to consume. The Guide can only serve as the basis for our nutrition with the hope that more up to date research will mean it becomes more accurate.Calcium does not have to be dairy. The Unique Strengths of Introverts Introverts bring a unique set of skills to the table. While introverts might not initially be seen as charismatic leaders, their tendencies can actually be great for team building. Because introverts often spend less time talking and more time listening, theyâre likely pretty well tuned in to the needs, concerns, and problems different team members are having. This can help set up the team building activities in a way that will benefit everyone instead of a select few. Also, because itâs rarer for introverts to voice their opinions in a group setting, when they do speak up, people are more likely to listen. Their words are valued because they are few. Surviving organizational stress in the workplace is something introverts often deal with, so the last thing you want is for an activity thatâs supposed to be positive actually be dreaded by more introverted employees. So when you want to build team synergy in the workplace, look no further than your teamâs introverts to lead the charge. A good place to start is to ask the introverts on your team how they would go about team building in their ideal world. What would the activities look like? How would they be executed? The unique skills of introverts make them well-suited to answer these questions thoughtfully and thoroughly. Alternative Ways to Connect with Co-Workers When it comes to organizing team building activities for people who hate team building, introverts might have different ideas of how to connect. There are plenty of alternative ways to connect with co-workers that can be utilized in any workplace. Sometimes, the best way for people to connect with each other is to get out of the work setting and unwind together somewhere new. Spending a day at a resort can offer opportunities for group activities as well as time for introverts to relax and recharge. It can be important to make sure the entire day isnât extremely high energy, as it will likely leave introverts exhausted and irritable. Another team building idea for introverts is to change the method of communication in some team building games, like âtwo truths and a lieâ or other verbal games. Consider writing down answers or discussing questions with a single partner instead of the entire group to better suit the preferences of introverts. When introverts lead these activities, they can be even more powerful. Introverted leaders might also appreciate using technology for team collaboration because these tools can help them communicate and contribute in non-verbal ways. It was touching and interesting and his voice is memorizing. I wanted to share it with our students.Our classes are not just about speaking English and learning a new language, but also about engaging in deep conversation with people from around the world. After all, isnt this what really learning a language is about? So enjoy this listening exercise and please try the writing. Post Spring Break Burn Out 6 Ways to Cope Beat the Spring Break Burn Out With These 6 Tips By this time, students in both high school and college are back from Spring Break. The first Monday back can be exceedingly difficult because students know that it was the last break until the end of the school year. College students will have to focus on final exams, finding a summer job or internship, or dealing with life after graduation. Additionally, high school students will be faced with the all-important AP examinations, the SAT, the ACT, and the thought of going to summer school if necessary (READ: Cracking the ACT Science Section). College seniors who have already been accepted to college will still need to maintain a decent GPA in order to keep their conditional acceptance. Although this time of year can be a challenge for most students, there are ways a cope that can help ease the transition from post spring break burnout back into academic life. 1. Get back into a routine Most students have gotten out of their routine during spring break, which is actually a good thing. Whether in high school or college, students need to rest, relax, and sleep in during their time off. However, now that school is back in session its important for students to reestablish a routine. Going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, eating a nutritious and protein-fueled lunch, and reestablishing a homework routine are all important when adjusting back to a regular school schedule. 2. Test preparation Students who have not yet started test prep for their AP exams or their college entrance exams are a little bit behind the game. However, theres still time for students to be successful on their AP exams and SATs but it will require a sacrifice of time. Exams are now just under a month away, giving students time to review and practice general test-taking strategies but not much time for content study. Students who are behind on their AP exams should arrange a plan of action with their tutor or classroom teacher in order to succeed next month. Students who will be taking that SAT or ACT this spring should crack open that test prep booklet and do a full length practice exam. Its important for students to know where they stand so they can, hopefully, get the score they want the first time around. 3. Energy Students who have been preparing for college or preparing to finish college this year are probably mentally tired at this point. Its important for students to conserve and maintain a steady stream of energy so they can be successful for the remainder of the academic year. The best way to conserve energy is to get eight hours of sleep each night, get mild to moderate exercise as is appropriate, and pay attention to good nutrition. Its also important for students to do things with their friends from time to time, even during the busy study season, so that they are able to take a mental break and just enjoy life. 4. Make plans Its important for students, regardless of their current grade level, to make plans for the summer. Whether itâs arranging to have a part-time job, planning a fun vacation, or looking for an internship, students who have something to look forward to are more likely to maintain their current level of energy. 5. Call a tutor Most college prep students, and many current college students, will have worked with a tutor earlier in the year either for SAT preparation or that really difficult course required for graduation. This is a good time of year to get back in touch with your Orange County private tutor and ask them for ways to survive the remainder of the school year. Students can either get academic help for the rest of the year or simply spend an hour or two getting reorganized and maintaining motivation. Having a little bit of help never hurts. 6.
